The Czech Boys Choir from the town of Hradec Králové in East Bohemia, maintains the famous traditions of boychoir singing in the Czech territory as it began in the 13th century with the first boys’ choir at the St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague.
In 1989, the school division implemented the middle school concept that extended Patrick Henry's enrollment to 9th graders. The school was named for the two districts in the western end of Monongalia County, and they, in turn, were named for the statesmen Henry Clay and Gordon Battelle. Grey and blue were chosen as the school colors because of the school's proximity to the Mason–Dixon line.
