The Philadelphia Police Department ( PPD or Philly PD) is the police agency responsible for law enforcement and investigations within the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The PPD is one of the oldest municipal police agencies, fourth largest police force and sixth largest non-federal law enforcement agency in the United States.
For example, in Philadlphia history, a Police officer was killed during the first "confrontation" with members of the organizathion MOVE. No officer was killed in the second confrontation. The Pennsylvania State Police was founded in 1905 by order of Governor Samuel Pennypacker, by signing Senate Bill 278 on May 2, 1905.
