The Star is a daily newspaper published in Nairobi, Kenya. It was launched in July 2007 as the Nairobi Star and later rebranded as The Star in 2009. The Star' s circulation was around 15,000–20,000 in 2010 (against total Kenyan newspaper circulation in 2010 of around 320,000), compared to 5,000–8,000 in 2007. [1]

It was first published on 5 April 1983 and was founded by KANU, at that time the only legal political party in Kenya. The paper was originally known as The Nairobi Times.
On December 5, 1963, the Kenya News Agency was created. On December 12, 1963 Kenya attained self-rule and the Office of the Prime Minister was established with Hon. Mzee Jomo Kenyatta as the first Prime Minister of Kenya. Kenyatta convened his cabinet with the Hon. R. Achieng Oneko as the first Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Tourism.
