There was a big scandal some years back that the Hughes aircraft facility contaminated the water in South Tucson and gave people cancer. So personally, I still wouldn't trust the water in South Tucson. Elsewhere, as others have noted, it doesn't taste great but is safe. We have an RO system in the house for drinking water.

Tucson City water is remarkably safe for a big city in a low-water area. Marana water is full of PFAS, which is bad. You want a charcoal filter for sure up there. Well water on the south side is a bad idea thanks to DMAFB and manufacturing, but city water is piped in from safe sources. Source: family member works for the state in water safety.

An energy star rated dishwasher can use as little as 3 gals per load. So unless you're only using 1/5 of a sinkfull of water for the entire hand washing process a dishwasher is more efficient. A few plates, cups, silverware, and a couple pots/pans will probably use more water hand washing than the same amount in a dishwasher.

My water bill used to be about $25 to $30. Then about 7 years ago they changed feed the meter out for a new digital one. The very next month my bill was $75 and has been that or higher every month since. We are 2 people. I irrigate my 2 Orange trees for about 25 minutes once a week.

The last time my water bill was outrageous (around $200-250), and we had a leak in the pool. Now that the leak is gone, with 4 adults in the house, 10-ish showers a week, watering trees a couple times a month, running the dishwasher 2x a day: my most recent bill was just over $100. 1. Reply. UV and ozone are other bacteria control methods used. For residential applications though most people don't do anything, which can easily lead to water quality issues worse than the unpleasant taste from the chlorinated water or shortened life of the softening resin.

Tucson Water Pressure. I am sick of my low water pressure. I live in a HOA and our waterbill is included with our HOA dues. I tried contacting our HOA rep but they said no one else has complained (I checked a few spigots around the neighborhood to see if anyone else had low pressure). Pressures ranged from 32-35 psi from the spigots I checked.

One way to combat this problem is to encourage property owners and those in charge of public lands to xeriscape and hard scape in ways that slow water down and capture it for use locally, either with passive earthworks like check dams and retention ponds, or rainwater harvesting with cisterns. 4.
