There was a big scandal some years back that the Hughes aircraft facility contaminated the water in South Tucson and gave people cancer. So personally, I still wouldn't trust the water in South Tucson. Elsewhere, as others have noted, it doesn't taste great but is safe. We have an RO system in the house for drinking water.
our family been drinking Tucson water and use water filter pitcher for 9 months now. (because we move a lot). The water was ok until recently it started tasting weird, and I was wondering if it's ok to still drink Tucson water. I think it has something to do with summer and getting hotter. Old roommate tests water for a living and always drinks ...
Tucson City water is remarkably safe for a big city in a low-water area. Marana water is full of PFAS, which is bad. You want a charcoal filter for sure up there. Well water on the south side is a bad idea thanks to DMAFB and manufacturing, but city water is piped in from safe sources. Source: family member works for the state in water safety.
The last time my water bill was outrageous (around $200-250), and we had a leak in the pool. Now that the leak is gone, with 4 adults in the house, 10-ish showers a week, watering trees a couple times a month, running the dishwasher 2x a day: my most recent bill was just over $100. 1. Reply. First welcome to Tucson. Second be aware of your water use and use common sense. Embrace the desert. My yard is full of green plants that are native including a tree that is over 30 ft tall. We don't use an irrigation system, have a great yard, and save on water. Tucson is offering free water conservation kits for people who are interested.
Thanks for all the help. Upon closer inspection, the back side of the Tucson Water bill shows a service fee and a sewer residential estimated volume fee. So yes, Los Cerros Water bills me for the water coming in, and Tuscan Water bills me for the water going out. Mystery solved.
One way to combat this problem is to encourage property owners and those in charge of public lands to xeriscape and hard scape in ways that slow water down and capture it for use locally, either with passive earthworks like check dams and retention ponds, or rainwater harvesting with cisterns. 4. An energy star rated dishwasher can use as little as 3 gals per load. So unless you're only using 1/5 of a sinkfull of water for the entire hand washing process a dishwasher is more efficient. A few plates, cups, silverware, and a couple pots/pans will probably use more water hand washing than the same amount in a dishwasher.
Tucson Water Pressure. I am sick of my low water pressure. I live in a HOA and our waterbill is included with our HOA dues. I tried contacting our HOA rep but they said no one else has complained (I checked a few spigots around the neighborhood to see if anyone else had low pressure). Pressures ranged from 32-35 psi from the spigots I checked.
